FAQ’s
Is EP HUB NE an Educational Psychology Service?
The EP Hub is not an Educational Psychology Service but a group of Educational Psychologists who have previously worked together and who are friends. We all have our own areas of interest and expertise and share a passion for supporting children, their families and their settings to reduce barriers to learning and support the development of inclusive and accepting educational environments where all children can thrive.
What experience do the EP HUB NE team have?
We have all worked as Educational Psychologists (EPs) for at least ten years in Local Authority services and have a post graduate qualification in educational psychology. Each of the EPs were class teachers prior to their careers in educational psychology.
We are all registered with the HCPC, have a current DBS and our own professional indemnity insurance. We are also members of various professional organisations including, for example, the Association of Educational Psychologists and the British Psychological Society.
Who can refer to the EP Hub?
Schools, Academy Trusts, Local Authorities and other organisations can contact the EP HUB using the email address on this website. We do not have the capacity to take referrals from parents or families.
Do you provide expert witness services or contribute to SEND tribunals?
None of the EPs who are part of EP HUB NE provide expert witness services or contribute to SEND tribunals.
What locations do the Educational Psychologists within EP Hub cover?
We cover locations within a 10 – 15 mile radius of Morpeth, Whitley Bay and Stocksfield. Between us, we cover areas of North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Newcastle, Northumberland and Sunderland.
How much do your services costs?
Charges vary between each Educational Psychologist in the Hub because we are all separate and independent businesses with our own costs, terms and conditions. The Educational Psychologist who is allocated your request will be able to tell you more about their pricing structure at the point of referral before you decide whether or not you wish to proceed with the work.
How much does it cost (in time and money) for an individual assessment?
It is not possible to give a set price for an assessment in time or money because the needs of each individual, and the questions being explored, will vary on a case-by-case basis. Pricing will therefore be discussed during the initial contact phase of the process. At the point of referral, the Educational Psychologist will be able to give you an estimate of what an individual piece of work is likely to require and how much time it will take.
Do the Educational Psychologists write a detailed report for every case?
At the end of a piece of work most EPs will write a report to share the information that they have discussed with you and ideas that have come from your time working together. Any report cannot contain all of the information discussed and is always a record in brief. The important and detailed information is always shared during our discussions.
Reports should be fit for purpose and accessible for everyone. There are lots of different ways to construct reports. Report writing can be very time consuming and may not always be the best use of your purchased EP time. We will discuss with you a variety of ways that we might present written information as a record of our work, this could include: a full detailed report covering lots of areas of development, a short record outlining any recommendations but without all of the detail, a letter, a consultation record.
I am interested in pursuing a career in educational psychology; do you offer the opportunity for shadowing placements or work experience?
We are pleased to hear that you are choosing such an exciting and interesting career path. Unfortunately we are unable to offer shadowing or volunteering opportunities.
